Many of the available commercial yogurts are made with stabilizers, fillers, thickeners etc. Many are without the natural probiotic good bacteria that should be able to duplicate in our guts. Making your own probiotic from natural cultures e.g. kefir, provides you with a number of major strains of probiotics that are not commonly found in yogurt.
